CLASSES

At South Asheboro Middle School, students are offered three

technology classes. Technology Systems in 8th grade, Exploring

the Engineering Design Process in 7th grade and Discovering Technology  in 6th grade.

Students explore what it takes to create and improve the tools that our society utilizes in the seven different technology families. Understanding "if one part of a system fails, the entire system fails" is a key focal point during discussions and hands-on projects.

"Technology Systems is more than just innovation and invention. It is all about building better tools and communities!  "

- Josiah., SAMS 8th Grader

Technology Systems—8th

This course will investigate technology systems through their function, design, development, interaction and maintenance. Students will observe how systems are designed to meet specific needs while conforming to physical, social and cultural constraints.

Exploring the Engineering Design Process—7th

Students will focus on the process by which products are invented and innovated. Using the Engineering Design Process, students will discover how creating new products will trigger intended and unintended impacts. There is a main focus on how inventions and innovations are the result of demands, values and interests of individuals, industries and societies.

Discovering Technology—6th

An exploration into the different types of technology utilized in past, present and future societies. Students will gather an understanding as to how technology is developed and improved based off of social and cultural needs and/or wants. The class will also view technology’s role in disaster prevention and relief.
